Places to visit

To the south of the provincial town of Phuket there are many colonial style residences dating back to the 19th century tin and rubber eras. Just outside, to the north of the town is the Butterfly farm and Aquarium with a comprehensive display of insects, butterflies, fish and coral. Nearby is the Orchid garden and Thai village with cultural performances of Thai bowing, dancing, handicrafts and flower displays. In the same area is Chang Charoen Crocodile farm which has thousands of freshwater crocodiles. In Thalang there is the ancient half buried Buddha image which has historical significance in protecting the inland from Burmese invaders in 1785.

Tours aroung Phuket

Just about any trip can be arranged from Phuket to see the neighbouring mountains, rock formations forests, islands, beaches and coral reefs. Ko Surin and Ko Simmilian can be reached easily by boat in 3 - 5 hours. Trips to Ko Racha, Ko Mai Thon, Ko Hei and Ko Lan leave Ao Chalong daily.

Phangnga

The provincial center of Phangnga is surrounded by steep limestone mountains and just 12 km. away is the Ao Phangnga National Park. Within the 400 sq km. park are coastal mangroves, superb limestone stacks and spectacular cliff formations. the mountain cave of Khao Kien has ancient paintings of marine life dating back over 3000 years while the island of Ko Panyi is surround by a marine fishing village built above the sea. Other places to visit in the park are Ko Thalu caves, the cliffs of Khao Phing Kan, neighbouring, Ko Tapu and the splendid beaches on Ko Yai.

Places to visit

The old Wat Narai Nikayaram near Kapong is the original site of Takua Pa an important trading entrepot over 1000 years ago. Within the wat are the oldest artworks to be found in Phangnga depicting the Hindu god Narayana and the Ramayana epic. Further north at the ancient town of Ban Thung Tuk are the ruins of on old indian settlement of similar era.
